Alonzo Villarreal is a versatile leader with over 15 years of experience directing multi-initiative, federally funded programs and a deep foundation in the professional culinary arts. Currently serving as the Assistant Director for Food & Nutrition Program Advancement at the Texas Department of Agriculture, he provides strategic oversight for a diverse portfolio of USDA grants exceeding $25 million.
Alonzo’s unique career trajectory is rooted in several years of professional culinary experience, including roles as an Executive Chef and Operations Manager. He further bridged the gap between the kitchen and the classroom as an Associate Instructor at Johnson & Wales University. This hands-on expertise in food service operations and culinary nutrition allows him to bring a practical, "real-world" perspective to large-scale nutrition policy and program management.
